The focus is storytelling. Storytelling remains the single most important tradition we possess to teach lessons, to inspire others, to entertain us, or to strive for something better. A stories characters show us ordinary people performing extraordinary deeds, not because they are forced to, but because they make the right choice. They help us relate and remember. In Toastmasters, for our public speaking, the craft of storytelling is something we are constantly striving to improve.
You’re invited to join us on May 13th as we explore storytelling together with a workshop and keynote. Building on our theme, Storytelling for Engagement, the Spring Conference is our premier member focused event for educating and entertaining you, the District 52 Toastmaster. You will be treated to the best our district has in public speaking, all competing for the right to represent District 52 at the Toastmaster International Finals in Vancouver, British Columbia. And really, that just starts to scratch the surface of the 2017 Spring Conference. There is so much more!
“If you don’t attend the Spring Conference, your life will be the same!”
– Lance Miller, 2005 World Champion of Public Speaking

- Experience the power of story firsthand in this moving, funny keynote
- Learn why story trumps data
- Discover the three most important stories you should be telling to connect and engage with your audience, your market and your world
There are two contests, the International Speech contest and the Table Topics contest. The winner of the District 52 International Speech contest will compete at the 2017 Toastmaster International Convention in Vancouver, British Columbia.
When you attend the Spring Conference as a spectator, you are fulfilling several very important roles. By attending the contest, you provide the contestants an important audience that he or she can bring along on their speech journey. A great audience provides the energy in the room that the contestant will build their speech upon. Also, you have an opportunity to learn lessons and techniques that you may not see at your club setting. Although not necessary, most contestants will present the “same” speech as they progress in their contest. Watch as incremental changes to the speech material, body movement, and voice inflection add or detract from the core message being presented. See how it works from a the smaller club contest audiences through the area and division all the way to the large audience at Spring Conference. Lastly, Everyone has someone from their Division at the contest to root for. Come support and cheer for your division’s contestant!
