The goal of District 52 is to provide quality educational programs to its membership during the Fall and Spring Conferences. We will offer opportunities that will promote the educational interests of our members and assist them in maximizing the full benefits of their Toastmaster membership.

Conference Objectives

  1. To share knowledge of accomplished speakers, create understanding, and integrate the wisdom in our communication methodologies.
  2. To provide a platform via our  Speech Contests that will showcase the speaking talents of our District 52 Toastmasters and exhibit pride in mastering the life-long skill of effective public speaking.
  3. To salute our District 52 Achievers in the "Hall of Fame" ceremony.

Communication & Leadership Awardee

 Douglas H. Barr, MSW

Doug Barr is President and CEO of Goodwill Southern California. Before joining Goodwill in 1995, Doug served three years as International President and CEO of the Hugh O’Brian Youth Foundation. A native of Canada, Doug was National Chief Executive Officer of the Canadian Cancer Society and the National Cancer Institute of Canada for seven and a half years. He also was the Executive Director of the Children’s Aid Society of Metropolitan Toronto and chaired the Toronto Board of Education.

Doug holds an undergraduate degree from the University of Toronto, a Master of Divinity from Victoria University and an MSW from University of  Southern California.

Doug is a member of the Rotary Club of Los Angeles #5, the Los Angeles County Workforce Investment Board, and the Church of Our Saviour (Episcopal).  In 2000, he became a dual citizen of the USA and Canada.

Doug enjoys international travel, theater, reading, golf, and vacationing in northern Ontario, Canada. He and his wife, Lee Mink Barr, live in Pasadena and have three adult children and four grandchildren.

A frequent request from Toastmaster clubs is ‘HOW CAN WE KEEP OUR MEMBERS COMING BACK?’     

Lauren will help us discover ways to put the SPARKLE back into club meetings with this fun and interactive workshop.    

  • Lauren Kelly has been in Toastmasters since 1987. 
  • In August of 2006, Lauren was elected International Director from Region II.
  • She is an Information Systems Project Manager specializing in healthcare insurance
  • She is a graduate of National University, Vista, California.
