From the Desk of Robert O'Donnell
District Statistician

 What do these numbers mean?

The left most column is the area name and if a bold letter follows it, it means that area is distinguished (D), select distinguished (S), or president's distinguished (P). The next two columns are the club dues being in on time, by the area criteria. Then comes a note column which just indicates how many dues have not been paid yet. Following that are the two educational goals for the area, once it is satisfied it is in bold print. The last column before the bold line is the number of distinguished clubs that exist in the area. Completing 4 of these 5 goals makes an area distinguished.

Completing all 5 goals allows an area to be considered select but 3 more goals must be completed, which are club visits and the number of clubs with 20 members or more.

Area goals are based on the number of clubs in the area on July 1st of the fiscal year.

District goals are based on total membership in the district from the prior year, except some are based on the number of clubs.

There are 7 areas that a district can earn points towards the overall ranking of districts, 4 of these goals must be satisfied in order to be distinguished.

These goals are:

  • CC (the old CTM)

  • AC (the old AC)

  • Member payments

  • Paid clubs

The above 4 must be met or exceeded by June 30th in order for the district to be distinguished. Any number over the goal does earn the district fractional extra points, except in clubs where it is 2 points per extra club.

The other 3 areas where points can be earned as bonus points, up to 10 in each category in one point increments, are:

  • distinguished clubs

  • distinguished areas

  • leadership completions (CL, AL, DTM)

Divisions need 3 areas to be at least distinguished AND have no net loss of clubs in order to be distinguished. Divisions need 3 areas to be distinguished or better to be SELECT, and need 3 areas distinguished AND a net increase of at least one club to be PRESIDENT’S distinguished. DIVISION B IS PRESIDENT'S DISTINGUISHED, C is SELECT

Analysis

Each area should encourage clubs to earn CC and AC to complete all 4 of those goals for that is the best way to complete your area goals, have them focus on themselves not the area, that is your job. Great to see almost all club visits having been completed.  Dues submission level is best I have ever seen from this district yet we still need 13 more paid clubs to meet the goal.  CC's are in good shape, yet 11 more are needed, we are further ahead at this time of year than we ever have been in the past 6 years.  We need about 300 new members by June 30 to make that goal.  We need to charter more clubs to make up for the lost clubs.

Here's a summary of what is needed to get each Area Distinguished:

Note:  It is probably much easier to get the educational completions (CC or AC) than it is to get a Distinguished Club, but getting a club distinguished will probably mean some of the educational completions you need will be done.  Just because certain goals are completed does not mea members should hold back submitting educationals or membership applications.  It is always better to get the member the recogntion they deserve as soon as possible.

How can I, as an Area Governor, help?

  1. Promote your clubs to get their dues in (if not already) and with a full roster.

  2. Encourage clubs to strive for one new member a month

  3. If you find building a new club too overwhelming, try partnering with another area governor to create one new club. Only 1 area can get credit towards being President’s Distinguished but both can get new club credit towards AL-S

  4. Review your clubs, the district DCP report, and find those problem clubs. Problem clubs are ones where the base membership plus new member for the year adds to a number much greater than the current membership. As an example, even Renaissance has some problems: club 2374 started the year with 51 members, now have 44 and have added 18, thus they have lost 25! (51+18-44 = 25)

  5. Ask each club to complete at least one CC goal (2 CC) and one AC goal.

  6. Do your club visits and report them via the Web.

If we can build 4 new clubs by your efforts, and no more are lost, our club goal is completed and we are DISTINGUISHED (at least).
