District Contest Training
January 11 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm
Contest season is right around the corner. February 1st is when contest season starts and all district leaders will have their hands full from February 1st through April 30th. For this reason, we need to be well-prepared and trained on how to run successful contests at the club, area and division levels. Our district members want to see professionally run and fairly judged contests that abide by the most updated rules Toastmasters has put in place this fiscal year.
You are all cordially invited to attend an in-person contest training at the following date, time and location:
Date: Thursday, January 11th
Time: 6:30pm – 7pm (Registration); 7pm to 8:30pm (Contest training); Gavel at 7pm
Location: North Hollywood Police Station
Address: 11640 Burbank Blvd, North Hollywood, CA 91601
Trainers: Brian Schweidenback (District Contest Training Chair), Nelson Better (District Contest Chair)
Parking: Limited on-site free parking; free street parking
At this contest training you will learn the following:
- The difference between a contest chair and chief judge
- The responsibilities of a contest chair and chief judge
- How to select a contest chair
- How to select a chief judge
- How to select judges
- Who is eligible to compete in speech contests
- How to run a contest from start to finish
- How to address conflict should it arise
- The importance of the Speech Contest Rule Book
- And much more!
Light snacks and bottled water will be provided. You are welcome to bring something edible to share or eat yourself.
This contest training workshop is primarily for Division and Area Directors. We will have a similar, but shorter, 50-minute contest training workshop at TLI on January 20th for all district members interested in learning more about contest organizing and execution.
Please RSVP for the January 11th contest training workshop by responding to this email. I would also be happy to answer any questions.
